Sports in Slovakia

Slovakia is a sporty country. Residents love running, rollerblading, cycling and Nordic walking. Representatives of the SR are increasingly conquering the podium at important competitions. There are all the means for training and preparing professional athletes in various sports. The most developed and popular are hockey and football, tennis and skiing.

On the international stage, the most successful sport in Slovakia is ice hockey. It has long been the most popular sport among the local population. At the national level, the Slovakian hockey championship is called Slovnaft Extraliga. In football, the national team is increasingly giving battle to recognized authorities. A promising sport in SR is tennis. A huge number of courts contribute to the popularization of tennis among the population.

Sports are loved in the country not only at the fan level. The government does everything to attract promising athletes from abroad to Slovakia. The best foreign athletes come here to train because of the high level of the training base. They get the opportunity to train and use the developed infrastructure, and can also apply for a residence permit in SR. To do this, you need to sign a contract with a club or a sports federation.
