Bratislava Castle

27.01.2023
The most important castle in Slovakia and its calling card is Bratislava Castle. This monumental building with corner towers is located on a hill in the Little Carpathians above the Danube.

The castle was built a long time ago. The first predecessor of Bratislava Castle arose during the construction of the pyramids of Egypt. The acropolis became famous during the time of the Celts. And during the Roman Empire, whose border ran along the Danube, there was a Roman border fortification here. Important trade routes crossed here, the most famous of which was the Amber Road.

The complex consists of corner towers and a courtyard with a deep well. The largest tower, the Crown Tower, was built in the thirteenth century and now houses the Crown Jewels. The castle contains structures that are a clear example of Gothic and Renaissance architecture.

From the Danube Cliff, on which the castle is located, you can see Austria and Hungary, which is not surprising, because the hill is located close to the border.

The majestic snow-white silhouette of the castle can be seen from almost any point in the capital. Tourists can visit this place all year round. Opening hours: from 9 am to 5 pm, admission is free.
