Types of business in Slovakia

There are currently three main types of activity in the Slovak Republic:

• free enterprise (voľné živností);
• handicraft (remeselné živností);
• related business (viazané živností).

Free enterprise is the most common type of entrepreneurial activity that does not require any additional requirements other than registration as a private entrepreneur. Free activities include all those that are not craft or related activities.

Crafts. This type of business includes those that require special professional education, such as: mechanic, plumber, carpenter, roofer, jeweler, cosmetologist, hairdresser, and others.

Related businesses are those activities that require specific requirements to be met by law. Each activity in this group has its own conditions that must be met. These are feasible requirements that mainly concern qualifications, education, and work experience in the field.
