Notification to the Slovak police about a new foreign passport

29.04.2025
If you reside in Slovakia and have received a new foreign passport, it is important to notify the Foreign Police in a timely manner. This procedure is mandatory and helps avoid issues with your documents and legal stay in the country. You must report the passport change within 5 working days from the date of receiving the new document.

You can notify the police in one of the following ways:
  • in person – visit the police department at your registered address;
  • online – use the electronic service on the website of the Ministry of the Interior of Slovakia;
  • by post – send a copy of the new passport by registered mail to the local police department;
  • by e-mail – send a scanned copy of the new passport to the e-mail address of the relevant police office.
To submit the notification, you will need the new passport (original, copy, or scan). Failure to notify on time may result in an administrative fine. In some cases, you may also be required to provide your residence permit or other supporting documents. If you have any questions, please contact the nearest Foreign Police department.
