How to obtain Slovak citizenship

There are several situations in which a foreigner has the right to obtain Slovak citizenship.

Obtaining citizenship by birth. Children under 18 years of age may obtain citizenship of the Slovak Republic if they were born here; lived continuously with permanent residence for three years; lived under the official guardianship of a citizen of the SR for 2 years.

Obtaining citizenship by adoption. This is possible if at least one of the adoptive parents is a citizen of Slovakia.

Obtaining citizenship through marriage. Official registration of a relationship with a citizen of Slovakia allows you to obtain citizenship after three years of cohabitation in the country. If the marriage turns out to be fictitious, the foreigner's spouse will be deported and banned from entering the EU.

Obtaining citizenship by admission to citizenship. You must permanently reside legally in Slovakia for ten years. During the consideration of the application for citizenship, a three-person commission takes a language test and conducts an interview. The decision-making period is 24 months.
