How to Change the Address on a Residence Permit in Slovakia
07.06.2026
When changing your place of residence in Slovakia, it is important for a foreign national not only to move physically but also to properly update their documents. After moving, you have 5 working days to notify the Foreign Police of your change of address. You must contact the office responsible for your new place of residence. The notification can be submitted by e-mail, post, or in person.The application may be written in free form. It must be accompanied by a copy of your valid residence permit card and a document confirming your new address. After that, the Foreign Police will transfer your file to the office responsible for your new place of residence.
Since the address is indicated on the residence permit card itself, the next step is to apply for a replacement card. To do this, you need to:
- Book an appointment through the Foreign Police website.
- Select the section “ostatné životné situácie”.
- Schedule an appointment at the office corresponding to your new address.
- Book a separate appointment for each family member.
- a completed application form for the replacement residence permit card;
- a document confirming accommodation/residence (issued no more than 90 days before submission);
- a valid passport;
- your current residence permit card.
The administrative fee is €10 for standard processing and €39 for expedited processing (within 2 working days). Payment can be made directly at the office via a payment terminal (cash or card).
The completed residence permit card may be delivered by courier to the specified address, handed over to an authorized representative, or collected in person at the police office.
