How to Obtain a Taxi Driver License in Slovakia

21.06.2026
If you plan to work as a taxi driver in Slovakia, you will need a special taxi driver license. The application process is not complicated, but it requires preparing a specific set of documents.

To submit an application, you need to collect the following 7 main documents:
  1. Criminal Record Certificate. The document must not be older than 3 months. If you have permanent residence in Slovakia, it is sufficient to obtain the certificate at a post office. If you hold a temporary residence permit or temporary protection status, you will need a criminal record certificate from your country of citizenship, with an apostille and an official translation.
  2. Driver Record Extract. This document must also be no older than 3 months. For holders of Slovak driving licenses, it can be obtained from the district police department. For foreign driving licenses, an equivalent document from the issuing country is required, with an apostille and a certified court translation.
  3. Medical Certificate. Issued by a general practitioner. Simply inform the doctor that the certificate is required for a driver. A standard form is usually used and completed by the physician.
  4. Psychological Assessment. This must be obtained from a transport psychologist.
  5. Photograph. One color photograph, size 35 × 45 mm.
  6. Copy of Driving License. A regular copy of your driver's license.
  7. Administrative Fee. The fee is €50.
The application is submitted at the Client Center of the District Office. It is important to choose the region where you have permanent residence, a registered business, or an officially registered place of stay. The administrative fee can be paid directly on-site via a payment terminal using code 841, or you can purchase a special revenue stamp at a post office in advance. After submitting all required documents, you will receive a taxi driver license that allows you to work legally in this field throughout Slovakia.
