Housing compensation for refugees in Slovakia
13.07.2024
The Slovak government has decided to tighten the rules for receiving compensation for housing for refugees from Ukraine. Now compensation will apply to providing housing to representatives of socially vulnerable groups. These are people under 5 and over 65 years old; receiving financial assistance for those in need; receiving disability benefits; single parents or guardians caring for children under 5 years of age. Compensation is 5 euros for each day of stay and will be paid within 120 days after check-in.Until now, compensation for accommodation was paid for all refugees from Ukraine without exception. The authorities explain the tightening of their policy in this area by the intention to socialize refugees remaining in the Slovak Republic as quickly as possible. At the same time, the change in rules will allow the government to reduce its expenses on compensation payments.
