Level of corruption in Slovakia

According to the World Corruption Index, Slovakia ranks 49th out of more than 190 countries (the higher the rank, the lower the level of corruption). This means that although Slovakia still has some work to do, it is still in the top quarter of the ranking, which indicates achievements in the fight against corruption compared to other countries.

The Slovak Republic has recently implemented significant reforms and updated laws to combat corruption, which shows the country’s commitment to reducing corruption. However, if you ask Slovaks themselves, most of them still consider the level of corruption here to be high. According to the latest survey, 82% of locals noted a high level of corruption, especially in the healthcare sector. And the average figure for the European Union was 70%. However, only 2% of respondents indicated that they had to pay bribes. However, it is worth noting that Slovaks are extremely critical of the authorities, so it is difficult to say how objective the results of the survey are.
