Documents in a Smartphone in Slovakia

23.08.2025
The Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic has officially presented new mobile applications that allow storing and using documents on a smartphone.

Mobile eID is a modern way of digital identity verification via a mobile device. Once activated, the service enables access to the government portal slovensko.sk, as well as the signing of official documents using a smartphone or computer with biometric authentication technologies such as facial recognition, fingerprints, or a secure PIN code.

E-DOKLADY is a separate mobile application developed for creating and storing digital copies of official documents based on mobile eID. At the first stage, users have access to electronic versions of their ID card and driver’s license. It is important to note that in order to convert a document into a digital format, it must first be issued in its traditional plastic form.

Both applications are already available in the App Store and Google Play, making them accessible to owners of both iOS and Android devices.

By 2027, all European countries will be required to accept electronic documents on par with paper or plastic originals, which will significantly simplify cross-border interaction and increase citizens’ mobility.
