Requirements for a work visa in Slovakia

The procedure for obtaining a work visa in Slovakia may vary depending on the country from which the application is submitted and the type of work the applicant is applying for. In general, the application procedure consists of the following stages:

• Finding a Slovak employer and signing an employment contract.
• Preparation of documents.
• Application review.
• Obtaining a work permit in Slovakia.
• Obtaining a work visa and residence permit.

To be registered as an employee in the Slovak Republic, a foreigner can obtain:

• single residence and work permit;
• work permit and temporary residence permit for the purpose of employment;
• temporary residence for the purpose of family reunification and work permit for the first 12 months;
• a residence permit for a third-country national who holds permanent resident status in another EU Member State and a work permit for the first 12 months.
