Processing Times for Residence Permit Applications in Slovakia

21.09.2025
The processing time for a residence permit application in Slovakia varies depending on the basis for submission and the place where the documents are filed.

Legally established timeframes:
  • up to 90 days — the standard maximum processing period;
  • up to 60 days — for residence permit applications based on employment, if confirmation from the Ministry of Labor is provided;
  • up to 30 days — if the basis for submission is related to studies, obtaining a Blue Card, performing specific activities, etc.
If the documents are submitted outside the country (for example, through a consulate), additional time is required for sending the papers via diplomatic mail.

Please note that the countdown starts not from the date of submission but from the day a complete set of documents is provided. If the Ministry of Interior requests additional materials, the procedure is suspended until they are delivered. In practice, processing may take longer, especially during peak periods or in cases of staff shortages.

At present, it is not possible to check the status of a submitted application online. In case of delays, you may send an official written request to inquire about the current stage of your case.
