What are the main principles of the education system in the Slovak Republic?

Here you can get a free European-style education. This applies to both schools and higher education institutions. It is possible to enroll your child in a private school, but there is no particular need for this, since state educational institutions provide good training.

All teachers who teach children up to grade 4 must have a higher education. And teachers who work with children starting from grade 5 must also have an academic degree in their subject.

All education is divided into 4 stages:

from 3 to 6 years old – kindergarten;
from 6 to 15 years old – primary school;
from 15 to 19 years old – secondary school;
higher education institution.

Pupils can also enrol in a gymnasium, secondary vocational school or college after completing primary school.

Local universities and colleges are available free of charge for applicants who graduated from school in another country. Currently, there are about twenty state, ten private and three national universities and colleges in Slovakia.
