Climate and weather in Slovakia

14.12.2022
Slovakia is located in a zone of mild climate with regular change of seasons, which is typical for mid-latitudes.

Winter here cannot be called frosty, rather cloudy and damp. The average temperature is about 2, -5 °C, but there are cold temperatures down to -15 °C. Snow usually falls in December and January. In the capital, there is also snow, but it does not stay for long. Residents usually use this time to the maximum. Both adults and children make snowmen, ride sleds, play snowballs. Fogs and clouds in winter are typical for lowlands. In the mountains, there are more sunny days. Such climatic conditions, together with beautiful mountain ranges, attract a large number of ski lovers. The winter tourist season here lasts all winter and ends in March.

Autumn and spring in Slovakia are quite rainy. Because of this and the melting snow in the mountains, floods are not uncommon. Long downpours are very rare, at least in the capital. And cloud cover can last for a long time. There are windy and foggy days. But Slovakia cannot be called a windy region, as there are no tornadoes or destructive hurricanes. The average temperature in spring is about 15 °C, and in autumn 8 °C.

Summer is pleasant here. Temperature is quite comfortable: about 24 °C, less often 30 °C in July with low humidity. SR can be considered a sunny country. For example, on average, Bratislava has 2 thousand hours of sunlight per year, and Kyiv has 200 hours less.
