Seasonal employment in Slovakia

18.01.2025
Seasonal employment is employment that does not exceed 180 days within 12 consecutive months and depends on a specific time of year when the volume of work in a particular sector increases (agriculture, forestry, fishing, industry, construction work and accommodation and food services).

If a citizen of a non-EU country does not need a visa, he/she only needs to obtain a work permit. It is issued by the local Department of Labor, Social Affairs and Family. The work permit is granted for a period of up to 90 days within 12 consecutive months. The employer is obliged to notify the labor exchange of the availability of a job 10 working days before submitting the application. The employment center issues a seasonal work permit within 20 working days from the date of application.

Seasonal employment for a period exceeding 90 days is possible only on the basis of a residence permit for the purpose of seasonal employment. The total period of work cannot exceed 180 days.

Before applying for a residence permit, the employment center must issue a confirmation of the possibility of filling the vacant job. The employer requests confirmation from the employment service no earlier than 20 working days after the vacancy is announced. The employment center makes a decision on the application within 15 working days.
