Consumer rights protection in Slovakia

15.02.2025
If a dispute arises between a buyer and a seller in Slovakia, the consumer has several options for resolution:
  • Slovak Trade Inspection (SOI) – This is a government body responsible for monitoring compliance with consumer protection regulations at the national level. SOI ensures that obligations established by law and EU regulations are met. If violations are detected, the inspection has the authority to ban the sale of goods or the provision of services and to demand the immediate withdrawal of products from the market.
  • Consumer Protection Organizations – These organizations defend consumer interests and provide legal support to citizens, helping to resolve disputes with sellers. They can participate in pre-trial negotiations and, if necessary, represent the consumer in court based on a power of attorney.
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) – This is a more flexible and accessible method of resolving conflicts between buyers and sellers. The ADR process aims to reach a mutually beneficial agreement that is binding for both parties. These services are provided by government agencies, consumer organizations, and business associations.
