Shortening the Working Day through Breaks in Slovakia

07.09.2025
According to the Slovak Labor Code, employees are entitled to a mandatory break for rest and meals, which lasts at least 30 minutes and must be taken after four hours of work. This break is not included in paid working time.

Refusing the break is not allowed by law, even if the employer agrees, as it may violate labor standards and company regulations. The break is essential for restoring energy and maintaining employee health.

The working day can only be shortened in agreement with the employer by using flexible schedules, shift work, or individual arrangements.

Any changes to the work schedule must be officially agreed upon and documented to comply with labor legislation.
